Fiona is a former lead for teaching and learning at Ormiston Chadwick Academy (OCA) in the north-west of England. She is a highly experienced teacher and teaches across the technology department with a focus on food and catering in KS4. She led the department last year to achieve exceptional progress and has developed a new member of staff to take on that role in the forthcoming year. Staff development is a passion for Fiona, and she is keen to see staff in her school develop into successful leaders. She has delivered training on a whole-school level, developing teachers’ understanding of pedagogy and encouraged teachers to share successful practice that could be used across the academy. Fiona believes that subjects like technology allow students to gain a broad and balanced education and is proud that many OCA students go on to study food, engineering, construction and graphic design in KS5. She feels that the extracurricular role that technology can play is enormous and, with the offer of a variety of activities and competitions it allows students to work together to develop solutions to real problems, e.g. OCA students winning the Siemens Rollercoaster challenge in 2019.
