Hywel has been a teacher for over 25 years and has found an incredible and innovative niche in the world of model teaching, contributing to and advising curriculum designers and innovators worldwide. He is an experienced teacher in special, primary and secondary settings, nationally and internationally, and contributes to the national conversation around education at school and university level. Hywel is also a well-respected author and a visiting lecturer at Leeds Beckett University delivering on master’s courses, and at the University of Huddersfield where he runs the secondary drama PGCE. His work now reaches beyond the world of education focusing on how stories can promote compassionate cultures and humane leadership.
His award-winning book Oops! Helping children learn accidentally has proved very popular with educators around the world and is a feature on the reading list of many university teacher training courses. He writes a regular column for Tes about his encounters as a ‘travelling teacher’, has contributed fiction to a prison-based literacy reading programme developed by The Shannon Trust, and his next book Botheredness, is due out in 2021.
